“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21 ESV
Samson was a man chosen even before he was formed in his mother’s womb to deliver the people of God.
Samson carried an anointing of extraordinary strength that became a subject of gossip and curiosity among those around him. From family to neighbors, even his well-wishers were curious about his extraordinary strength. I’m not sure how many really felt good about his anointing, though.
Because his enemies couldn’t face Samson and win, they used deception through Delilah to weaken him. Samson resisted a couple of times but finally fell for the deception before he knew it. The lie came in the form of love, and he was weakened, left in darkness, and bound in chains. He was blinded, ridiculed, shamed, and humiliated, yet he could still call upon God.
The enemies thought it was the end of Samson’s legacy and that the Israelites would remain bound for good. But the vision of God goes far beyond the plans of man. The anointing of God works beyond human strength.
When Samson called upon the name of God one last time, his strength was renewed. With the might God gave him, he destroyed more enemies in his death than he had during his life.
This story is a reminder that even when the whole world is against you, rejoice in the anointing God has poured upon your life, because His plan and purpose prevail to the very ends of the earth.
Destiny belongs to God. He fulfills what He desires. No human plans, situations, or darkness can stop the work of God’s anointing in your life.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us guard Your anointing and remain close to You. Keep us from deception, and strengthen us when we are weak. Even in our brokenness, help us call upon Your name and trust You to fulfill Your purpose in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
