“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.’”
Daniel 3:16 ESV

A lot of times, we feel the need to answer every question and every accusation thrown at us. We want to explain ourselves and make others understand the truth. But even the best answer we give may not be convincing to the one who has already chosen to question us.

In this situation, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were accused because they refused to bow down to an idol.

It was the right thing to do in the eyes of Almighty Jehovah, yet it was not right in the eyes of those who were ignorant of the truth or blinded from seeing it.

For these three young men, this was not their first encounter with God. They knew their God, and they knew what their God was capable of doing.

They did not waste their time arguing. Even the threat of death did not provoke them to argue or justify their actions. Their confidence was in the just and Almighty God.

And their confidence did not go in vain.

God showed up in such a way that He made the very people around them speak about His sovereignty and greatness. God Himself was in the fire, moving around with them. What seemed to be a punishment turned into a promotion, without them having to speak a word for themselves.

This brings us great encouragement today.

You don’t have to answer every false allegation or every untrue accusation. Continue to do what is right in the eyes of God. Resist every pressure to bow down to anything that displeases Him.

In due time, God can turn the very mouth that spoke allegations against you into a mouth that brings honor to you and glory to the God you serve.

You don’t have to answer. God will.

Prayer:
Lord, help me not to fight every battle with my own words. Give me the strength to remain faithful to You even when I am misunderstood or falsely accused. Help me not to bow down to pressure or compromise what is right in Your eyes. Let my confidence be in You alone. When I cannot defend myself, be my Defender. Turn every difficult situation into a testimony that brings glory and honor to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
