…your children will be like olive shoots around your table.”
Psalm 128:3 (ESV)

Young olive shoots naturally grow around the base of a mature olive tree, drawing nourishment from its roots and carrying its life forward. They represent continuity, fruitfulness, and the hope of future generations.
In ancient Israel, olive trees symbolized prosperity, blessing, and abundance. The shoots surrounding an established tree reflected the preservation of a legacy and the promise that its fruitfulness would continue.
In a generation filled with distractions and influences that seek to pull children away from God, seeing children walk in the ways of the Lord is a precious blessing. Yet God’s Word remains true and unchanging through every generation. His promise declares that children will be like olive shoots around the table—growing, flourishing, and strengthened through the love, guidance, and faith of their family. They can become a source of joy and strength, honoring their parents and carrying forward a godly legacy.
The blessing of the Lord rests upon children who are raised in His ways. While every child has their own journey and choices to make, parents are called to faithfully plant seeds of truth, teach God’s Word, and cultivate reverence for Him from an early age, trusting Him to guide their children’s steps.
When parents faithfully sow seeds of godliness, they can trust God for the fruit that follows. Their children can become a blessing to others, standing firm in faith and bringing glory to God for generations to come.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the precious gift of children. We pray that You would cause them to grow like healthy olive shoots, firmly rooted in Your Word and flourishing in Your presence. Protect them from every evil influence and establish them in faith, wisdom, and righteousness. May our children carry the name of Christ, bring glory to You, and become a blessing to generations to come. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
