“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”
Psalms 34:7 (NIV)
The fear of God, in the Hebrew sense, is often understood as a “trembling wonder” rather than running away in terror. It is a deep reverence, awe, and wholehearted acknowledgment of God’s supreme authority, holiness, and majesty. When we submit ourselves to His will and allow Him to lead our lives according to His purposes, we begin to understand the true meaning of the fear of God.
Where there is reverence for the Lord, there will be worship. Where there is worship and exaltation, God’s presence dwells. And where His presence abides, the angel of the Lord encamps around His people.
The apostle Peter experienced this firsthand. By the king’s command, he was arrested and confined in a maximum-security prison, guarded by four squads of soldiers. He was chained between two guards inside the cell while the church prayed earnestly for him. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared, filling the prison with light. Peter’s chains fell off, the guards were powerless to stop him, and the angel led him through the prison doors, past the iron gates, and into the city streets, bringing him safely to freedom.
When the angel of the Lord is around us, no chain is too strong, no prison is too secure, and no captivity is beyond God’s power to break. Peter’s chains were struck off by the power of God, and he was led safely out so that he could continue preaching and teaching the gospel.
The ministry of God’s angels may not always be visible to our natural eyes, yet God continually sends them to surround His children with protection, help, and rescue in times of need.
Every one of us can experience God’s angelic protection when there is reverence for the Lord, heartfelt worship, continual praise, and a life that pursues holiness. Where God is honored, His presence dwells, and His angels stand ready to carry out the commands of the Almighty.
Be encouraged today. Your home, your workplace, and every place you dwell can become a place where God’s presence rests and His angels surround you, as you walk in the fear and reverence of the Lord.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unfailing protection and for commanding Your angels concerning Your children. Surround us with Your divine protection, rescue us from every danger, and lead us safely according to Your perfect will. May our lives continually glorify You and become a dwelling place for Your holy presence. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
