“And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, “Amen. Hallelujah!””

“If you have nothing left to boast about and all you have is a Hallelujah in your mouth, you are covered on every side.”

The word Hallelujah is a transliteration of the Hebrew term hallĕlūyāh. Hallelu comes from the Hebrew root hallel, which means to praise, boast, or shine brilliantly. Yah is the poetic form of Yahweh (Jehovah), the covenant name of God.

The Apostle John describes hearing a great multitude in heaven singing, “Hallelujah!” The angels, the elders, the living creatures, and the great and the small all cry out, praising the name of the Lord.

David continually praised the Lord, and God gave him victory over his enemies. When the people of Israel obeyed God with a shout of praise, the walls of Jericho came down. King Jehoshaphat appointed singers to praise the beauty of God’s holiness, and the Lord fought the battle for His people. With a Hallelujah in the prison, Paul and Silas sang praises to God, and the prison doors were opened. Throughout the Bible, victory is found where praise is lifted to God.

There is sure victory in the places where Hallelujah is raised, because God dwells in the praises of His people. He delights in praise, and He moves on your behalf when you worship Him.

So when the enemy is after you, lift your hands and raise a Hallelujah. When sickness brings you down, raise a Hallelujah. When you feel defeated, raise a Hallelujah. When fear surrounds you, raise a Hallelujah. Praise Him before the victory, praise Him in the battle, and praise Him after the victory.

As you sing Hallelujah, you join the choir of heaven. You join in the worship that is already taking place before the throne of God. Your heart is lifted into His presence, your faith is strengthened, and your eyes are fixed on the One who reigns forever.

In every season and in every situation, raise a Hallelujah! When everything else fails, let your Hallelujah remain, because a heart that continues to praise God will always find victory in Him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for putting a song of praise in our hearts. Teach us to praise You in every season, knowing that You are worthy regardless of our circumstances. As we lift our Hallelujah, fight our battles, strengthen our faith, and fill our hearts with Your peace and victory. May our lives continually glorify Your holy name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
