“It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
Psalm 136:23 (ESV)

Everyone loves to be among the blessed, to share in their joy, and to be associated with them during their season of success. But very few choose to stand with someone in their time of need, in their low estate.
When Jesus’ ministry was flourishing, healing the sick and delivering the oppressed, the disciples joyfully followed Him. They gladly walked with Him and shared in the honor of being associated with Jesus. People recognized them because they belonged to Him. But when the Romans arrested Jesus to crucify Him, they all fled in different directions, afraid to be seen with Him, except one. One disciple even denied knowing Him.
Human loyalty often fades in times of suffering. Jesus was stripped, beaten, humiliated, and brought into His low estate. If even the beloved Son of God experienced rejection in His suffering, imagine what we, as fallen human beings living in a world filled with hatred and malice, may experience.
Job’s wife, who had shared life with him and built a family with him, told him to curse God when he entered his season of sickness and poverty. Those who once honored him could not remain with him in his suffering.
Our own family members, friends, and acquaintances may distance themselves from us in our low estate. But thank God for His mercy and His steadfast love that remembers us in our lowest moments. God’s remembrance is never passive. When He remembers His people, He acts on their behalf. Throughout Scripture, whenever God remembered His people, He intervened, delivered, restored, and fulfilled His promises.
He not only remembers us—He loves us. He never leaves us nor forsakes us. He delights in calling us His own children. Above all, His steadfast love endures forever. It does not change with our circumstances, our failures, our disappointments, or our seasons of waiting. His love remains constant because His nature never changes.
Even if the whole world forgets you, remember this: God remembers you, and His steadfast love endures forever.
Let us rest in His love, enjoy His love, and dwell in His love, for His steadfast love endures forever.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for remembering us when we are weak, forgotten, and in our lowest moments. Thank You that Your remembrance is never passive, but that You act on behalf of Your children with mercy, grace, and unfailing love. May we remain rooted in the assurance that Your steadfast love endures forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
