“To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.”

Ashes are something that is considered the least. They represent great loss, grief, mourning, repentance, brokenness, and, for some, a life-altering moment. They are often a reminder of what has been destroyed and reduced to nothing.

This Scripture brings great comfort because God changes situations. He gives an “instead” for your present situation.

The Bible reveals that the Master Potter, your Almighty God, can bring life from the dust and create a living being in His own image by breathing life into it. If God can bring life out of dust, imagine what He can do with the ashes of your life. When the Spirit of the Lord ministers to you, there is a shift. What looks like ashes, mourning, and despair, He gives you the “insteads.” He gives beauty, He gives joy, and He gives praise to your tongue.

Not only that, what God restores stands as a witness for people to see. Your restoration is never just for you; it becomes a testimony that glorifies God.

Everything is made beautiful in His hands. Every brokenness is restored in His presence. Every situation is changed as He intervenes.

Jesus met the outcast Samaritan woman. Her shame became a testimony, and she became a witness who shared the good news in her town. The lepers whom Jesus healed were no longer rejected but stood before the priests as a testimony of His healing power. Jesus met Mary Magdalene, who was possessed by many demons. Her bondage was turned into freedom, and she followed Jesus, serving Him faithfully.

The “insteads” that God gives in your life will be far more glorious than how your life looks right now. Do not be discouraged by the ashes in your life. Jesus Christ will give you beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and the garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You because You are the God who gives beauty instead of ashes. Turn every sorrow into joy, every mourning into praise, and every broken place into a testimony of Your goodness. Help you to trust You even when all you can see are ashes, knowing that You are working all things together for your good and for Your glory. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
