“And Moses said to the people, ‘Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.’”
Exodus 14:13 (ESV)
The Egyptians kept the Israelites in slavery for 400 years. They cried out for help, and God sent Moses to deliver His people. As much as these people wanted to be delivered, they were not entirely willing to leave the hand of oppression, fearing they would lose even the little comfort and security they had.
They struggled to trust and believe that God was shaking the land of Egypt with mighty plagues so that Pharaoh would release them. They grew impatient and fearful, hesitating to participate in the very process of deliverance that God was working out for them.
People who had lived in slavery for that many years only knew what the oppressor said, fed, and provided. To them, the land of Canaan was an entirely different world. The promise of a land flowing with milk and honey seemed too difficult to believe because neither they nor their ancestors had ever experienced such a place. They had developed a slavery mindset that was more familiar with suffering than with freedom.
Moses addressed the overwhelming panic of the people as they stood trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s approaching army. He encouraged them, with these words.
The Egyptians in this passage signify slavery, fear, humiliation, bondage, and lack that the people of God endured. This word comes as a great encouragement that the Egyptians you have faced until today, you shall not see tomorrow, because the Lord Himself will fight for you.
The Hebrew word for “salvation,” “deliverance,” or “rescue” is יְשׁוּעָה (Yeshu’ah), which shares the same root as the name Yeshua (Jesus). This is a beautiful reminder that our ultimate deliverance is found in Jesus Christ. He not only delivers you from the power of sin but also rescues you from every form of spiritual bondage, fear, shame, and condemnation.
Whatever your “Egypt” may be today—fear, addiction, guilt, rejection, sickness, or oppression—do not be afraid. Stand firm in faith and watch the Lord fight for you. The same God who parted the Red Sea is still making a way where there seems to be no way. Your deliverance belongs to the Lord, and what has held you captive for so long does not have to follow you into your future. In Christ Jesus, there is freedom, victory, and a new beginning.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God who delivers and rescues Your people. Help us to stand firm and trust You, even when the way forward seems impossible. Through Jesus Christ, break every chain of fear, bondage, oppression, and every slavery mindset in our lives. We declare that the enemies we face today will not define our tomorrow, because You are fighting for us. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
