“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16 ESV
The devil’s greatest threat is our praise.
To the devil, the sound of praise is the announcement of his defeat, but for believers it is the joyful sound of victory.
Noise, confusion, and constant distractions are some of the enemy’s greatest weapons to pull our focus away from Jesus. The enemy knows his fate when he hears the sound of praises rising to the Heavenly Father.
The Israelites conquered Canaan through praise. When a vast army came against King Jehoshaphat, he placed singers at the front of the army, praising God. Their praises brought confusion into the enemy’s camp, and victory belonged to Judah without even lifting a sword.
Paul and Silas, after being beaten and chained in prison, prayed and sang hymns to God. Their praise shook the foundations of the prison, opened the doors, and broke every chain.
Praise transfers the battle from our hands into God’s hands. The battle fought through praise is far more powerful than any physical battle. Our victory is certain when we have a tongue of praise and a heart of worship.
To avoid defeat, the enemy uses distraction as a weapon. We live in a world where distractions are at their peak and the noise around us is louder than ever before. Research says this is one of the most distracted and confused generations in history.
Yet that does not change the power of the Holy Spirit, who works through every generation. When we cry out for help, the Holy Spirit restores our praise, renews our worship, and redirects our focus back to Jesus.
No loss is truly a loss until we lose our praise. Therefore, seek God in every circumstance with praise and worship, and you will walk in the victory that Christ has already secured for you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of praise. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and not be distracted by the noise and confusion around us. Fill our hearts with worship and our mouths with thanksgiving. Holy Spirit, restore our praise whenever we grow weary and teach us to trust You in every battle. May our lives continually glorify You and bring honor to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
