“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭27‬:‭1‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Fear is a weapon the enemy uses to knock us down. When fear creeps in, even a joyful moment feels like a burden. Happiness seems far away, life feels dry, and nothing feels exciting. All we focus on is the one fear to which we have become bound.

Fear has a way of magnifying itself until it begins to affect every area of our lives. It can make us feel stuck, overwhelmed, and unable to move forward.

Adam and Eve enjoyed fellowship with their Heavenly Father. They were living in the goodness of God and enjoying the gift of life He had given them. The presence of God was with them, and their fellowship with Him was constant and strong until Satan deceived them into sin.

Satan not only brought sin into their lives, but he also brought fear along with it. Fear caused them to hide among the trees of the garden, but the loving Father approached them with both truth and discipline. Right there, in the place where fear entered humanity, God revealed His redemptive plan—that His Son, Jesus Christ, would crush the head of Satan and set mankind free.

Our Heavenly Father takes fear seriously. Throughout His Word, He repeatedly reminds His people not to be afraid.

King David sings with confidence that God is his light and salvation. That truth alone is enough to assure us that no darkness can overcome us with fear. David continues by declaring that God is his stronghold—a place of safety, defense, and protection. Because God is his refuge, he has every reason to trust God regardless of what comes his way.

David’s life teaches us that our true security and defense are found in the presence of God. Being rooted in the truth that God loves us so deeply that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for us, silences the noise of fear.

When fear arises, we do not have to surrender to it. We can bring it before God in prayer, meditate on His promises, worship Him, and remind ourselves of His faithfulness. Perfect love casts out fear, and the love of God has been displayed loud and clear. If God is for us, who can be against us?

In fellowship with God, there is strength to face the adversary, courage to face every situation, and confidence that we will overcome the darkness. Fear may knock at the door, but it does not have to rule our hearts. As we walk in partnership with Jesus Christ, faith rises above fear, and we learn to stand firm in His love and truth.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being our light, our salvation, and our stronghold. When fear tries to overwhelm us, help us to fix our eyes on You and trust in Your unfailing love. Fill our hearts with Your peace, courage, and confidence. Teach us to bring every fear before You in prayer and to stand on Your promises. Let faith rise above fear as we walk closely with Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
