““The angel said, ‘Look up, and you will see that only the streaked, speckled, and spotted males are mating with the females of your flock. For I have seen how Laban has treated you.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭31‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God’s way of bringing a story to its climax is always remarkable. He responds to oppression, injustice, and deception in ways that are remembered for generations.

One such example is Jacob and his uncle Laban. Jacob loved Rachel and agreed to work seven years to marry her. However, Laban deceived him by giving Leah instead. Jacob was then forced to work another seven years for Rachel and an additional six years to build his own flocks. During those twenty years, Laban repeatedly changed Jacob’s wages and dealt unfairly with him.

Yet God saw everything.

When God commanded Jacob to return to his homeland, Laban pursued him with harmful intentions. But before he could act, God warned him in a dream, saying not to speak either good or bad to Jacob. As a result, Laban could not harm him. Instead, they made a covenant and established a boundary line between them. Jacob departed safely with his family, livestock, and possessions.

Jacob’s story reminds us that God is deeply involved in our lives. Though Jacob was far from his father’s house, without influence, support, or wealth, God watched over him. God saw every act of deception, every injustice, and every hardship. Rather than immediately punishing Laban, God chose to bless Jacob abundantly. His flocks increased, his household prospered, and his life flourished.

Jacob arrived empty-handed in a land he had never known, but he left full of blessings. God not only prospered him but also set a boundary between His child and the oppressor.

This is an encouragement to anyone who has been oppressed, deceived, or treated unjustly. Remember that God is involved in your story. Even when no one else sees your pain, God sees it all. The same God who intervened for Jacob will intervene for you. He knows how to silence the enemy, establish boundaries, and bring you into a season of blessing.

God Himself will set you free, cause you to flourish, and establish you in the land of the living.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being involved in every detail of our lives. Help us to trust You when we do not understand what You are doing. Just as You protected and blessed Jacob, protect us, establish Your boundaries around us, and cause us to flourish according to Your will. We believe that You are working on our behalf and that Your plans for us are good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
