“But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me. Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice. He ransoms me and keeps me safe from the battle waged against me, though many still oppose me.”
Psalms 55:16-18 NLT
When trouble comes our way, the first thing we often do is call someone whom we believe has the wisdom or expertise to guide us through the situation. Human advice and counsel may help us to a certain extent, but every person has limitations in their own capacity. However, when we call upon God, the story ends differently.
David knew the wisest thing to do in times of trouble and need. He cried out to the Lord when disaster came his way, when danger surrounded him, when he needed counsel, and when fear tried to overtake him. For David, God was his first and last resort.
This passage gives us deep assurance that when we call upon Him and seek Him in our distress, He hears our cry. He listens to us with patience and compassion. He is the only one who is always available to comfort us, regardless of the day or hour. God is never too busy to ignore our prayers or turn away from our plea.
The Scripture continues to affirm that God will ransom us from harm, and every battle waged against us is handled by Him. Even when many rise against us, God is able to hide us under His protection and keep us safe in His pavilion.
The love of the Almighty Father cannot always be fully understood by the human mind. Yet He revealed the depth of His love by giving His only Son, Jesus Christ, as the evidence of His love, His longing, and His deep desire to keep us close to Himself.
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of God’s promise to mankind. When Jesus walks beside us, we will never be left alone, never abandoned, never forsaken, and never truly defeated.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for hearing our cry whenever we call upon You. Thank You for the gift of Jesus Christ, through whom we find comfort, strength, and assurance. Keep us under Your care and help us trust You completely in every situation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
