“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

Geoffrey Bull, a Christian missionary, was held captive in Tibet for three years in the 1950s.
As a youth, he had studied and memorized vast portions of Scripture. He drew on this deep well of the Word to survive his imprisonment. Though he was deprived of a physical Bible for over three years—including periods of solitary confinement and intense “re-education” through brainwashing—he was never without the Word within him.
He began to reconstruct the Bible in his mind, starting from Genesis, recalling every story, every moment, every chapter he could remember. Line by line, truth by truth, he rebuilt what could not be taken from him. This sacred discipline preserved not only his faith in Christ, but also his very sanity. The Word within him became his refuge, his strength, and his lifeline, keeping him from mental collapse.
In December 1953, he was finally released to British authorities in Hong Kong.
This testimony reminds us of a powerful truth: the knowledge of God is one of the greatest weapons given to us. It tears down every thought, every argument, every fear, and every lie the enemy tries to plant within us.
The Bible calls us to take captive the works of the flesh and the schemes of the enemy through the Word of God. As it is written, Christ holds supreme authority over everything, and all things must come into obedience under Him.
Our captivity begins when we forget the power of His Word. The moment we neglect it, we give room to a false authority that has no real power over us.
But today is the day to overthrow that false authority.
Take back your promised life. The Word of God is your weapon. It is your defense. It is your shield. Hold it, speak it, live it. And by the authority Jesus has given you, walk out of every prison door—free, bold, and victorious.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the power of Your Word. Write Your truth deeply in my heart so that no circumstance, no fear, and no attack of the enemy can take it from me. Strengthen my mind, anchor my soul, and teach me to stand firm in Your promises. Help me to take every thought captive and bring it under Your authority. Today, I choose to walk in freedom, in truth, and in the victory You have already won for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
