“Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.”
1 Corinthians 1:27 NLT

Jesus Christ is the source of all wisdom. What seems wise in human eyes may look foolish in God’s eyes, and what seems foolish, God uses to reveal His glory.
The way we think and perceive is far from the wisdom of God.
Peter, one of the great apostles whom Jesus called the “rock,” is a powerful example. This is the same Peter who healed, delivered, and boldly shared the gospel in synagogues. He stood before scholars, educated rabbis, and leaders, and answered their accusations against Jesus with truth and clarity. On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached his first sermon, leading thousands to salvation and bringing understanding of both the law and the grace of God. He became a key leader in establishing the early church in Jerusalem, opening doors for both Jews and Gentiles.
Looking at all this, we might assume he was highly educated and wise.
But Peter was an uneducated fisherman, never trained in rabbinic schools. All he knew was the sea, nets, and fish. Yet God, in His wisdom, chose an ordinary fisherman to become a fisher of men.
Peter’s ministry began simply by being with Jesus for three and a half years. The knowledge and wisdom he received from Him were more than enough. His words were later recorded as epistles that continue to encourage and edify believers even today.
The Jewish leaders were astonished and wondered how a fisherman could be so knowledgeable. The Pharisees and Sadducees took pride in their learning, titles, and accomplishments. They considered themselves the wisest in the land, yet not one of them was chosen to be among the twelve disciples.
In the same way, Paul, a highly educated scholar, when he came to understand the wisdom of Christ, counted all his former achievements as worthless compared to knowing Him.
Peter’s story reminds us that God does not call the qualified—He qualifies the called. When God calls you, He equips you. His wisdom will be at work within you.
You are made wise in Jesus Christ. God will lift you up in the very places where the world has tried to humiliate you. In the eyes of people, you may seem foolish, but in the eyes of Jesus—the true source of wisdom—you are wise.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are the source of all wisdom. Teach me not to rely on my own understanding, but to trust in Your ways. When I feel inadequate or overlooked, remind me that You have called and equipped me. Fill me with Your wisdom, boldness, and truth. Use my life for Your glory, even in the places where I feel weak. Let Your strength be made perfect in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
