““Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has made you well. Go in peace.””
Luke 8:48 NLT
Faith is believing in what we have not seen and hoping for what is unseen.
In this passage, we encounter a woman who received her healing through faith. She had been suffering from an issue of blood for many years—years of aging, years of frustration, years of expectation, years of rejection, and years of pain. Year after year, day after day, moment after moment, she waited for a turning point that could change her life.
Thinking about this woman, her entire life must have revolved around this condition. In a close-knit community where everyone knew one another, people would have labeled her and identified her by her sickness. Since bleeding was considered unclean in those days, it is uncertain whether she even had a family. It is hard to imagine anyone wanting to associate with her. She likely had no stable work to support herself and depended on the alms of others. The places where other women gathered to talk, laugh, and live freely may have been closed to her. She was, in many ways, living in a dark world—even in broad daylight. A woman alone in such a condition would also have been vulnerable to danger.
In this hopeless state, when she heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, she did not want to miss the opportunity. She recognized it as a golden chance that could change her life forever. This unclean, outcast, rejected woman pushed through the crowd—not primarily to meet Him or even to be prayed over, though that would have been good—but simply to touch the hem of His garment, believing that she would be healed.
Her act of faith reached Jesus Christ, and instantly she was healed. She could feel that her bleeding had stopped. Jesus paused, turned around, and asked who had touched Him, even as He walked through the crowded multitude. He said this because He felt power go out from Him.
The irony is that many people were around Him and could have touched Him. His garment could have brushed against many as He walked. Yet it was this woman’s faith that caught His attention.
Jesus turned because of her faith. He stopped because of her faith. She did not heal herself, but her faith connected her to the One who heals—and through that, she received her miracle.
This woman’s act teaches an extraordinary truth: you, too, can draw the attention of Jesus Christ through faith.
In your physical ailment, rejection, or hopeless situation, there is still a golden opportunity for your life to change when you place your faith in Jesus.
Press through every hindrance. Push past every setback. Move forward with determination, even when everything resists you, and reach out in faith to touch Him for your miracle.
Your breakthrough may be closer than you think. Take that step forward in faith—Jesus will stop and turn for your faith.
Lord Jesus,
I come before You with faith, even when I cannot see the way ahead. Strengthen my heart to believe beyond my circumstances. Help me to press through every obstacle, every doubt, and every fear, just to reach You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
