“My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.”
Psalms 62:7 NLT
A few years ago, I came across an episode of iguanas versus snakes. It was a truly gripping scene.
It took place near the seashore, surrounded by rocks that seemed to be a den for snakes. Iguanas thrive in warm, humid conditions and are often found near water, usually seeking higher places to avoid predators.
In this scene, a baby iguana had lost its way and was caught between the seashore and the rocks. As it searched for a higher place to stand, the snakes—who cannot detect prey unless it moves—noticed it nearby. The moment the iguana sensed danger, it began to run.
But in running, it alerted the other snakes hidden among the rocks. What could have been one threat quickly became many. The iguana could outrun a snake, but not a swarm. It was surrounded, entangled among hungry snakes. Yet in the midst of the chaos, twisting and turning, it found a small opening, broke free, and ran with everything it had.
Then it saw a high rock and began to climb.
Even as it climbed, the snakes chased and struck, but they could not reach the height it was gaining. In one final attempt, a snake lunged upward to catch its tail—but in a split second, the iguana escaped.
Standing on that rock, it found safety.
The situation had not changed. The snakes were still there. The danger was still real. But its position had changed—and that made all the difference.
The iguana was no longer afraid. It stood in confidence, looking down at what once threatened to destroy it, now unable to reach it.
This is what I remind myself of whenever I feel overwhelmed.
There is a Rock—Jesus Christ—where I can stand. A place where the enemy cannot reach. A place of safety, of refuge, of unshakable security.
Is this not the picture of trusting God—running to Him, our refuge and our stronghold?
There is deep confidence in knowing that there is a place where we can stand, a place the enemy cannot access. The nature of the enemy is to devour and destroy, and often the attacks do not come alone—they multiply, they surround, they intensify.
But take heart and Be encouraged
For The Bible says ,
“A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”
Psalm 91:7 ESV
The enemy may gather, but it cannot overcome the Rock. Nothing can stand against Jesus Christ. He is our stronghold, our defender, our ever-present help in times of trouble.
As you draw closer to Him, as you go higher and deeper in Him, your position changes. The enemy begins to lose ground and lose sight of you. You may still see the situation, but it cannot reach you. It may surround you, but it cannot overtake you.
The danger may still exist—but it no longer has access.
This is the confidence we have.
Therefore, the only safety we have is the Rock—the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ.
Trust in Him. He will never fail you.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are my Rock and my refuge. When I feel surrounded and overwhelmed, help me to run to You and stand firm in You. Lift me above every fear, every attack, and every danger. Strengthen my heart to trust You completely, knowing that in You I am safe and unshaken. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
