“He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.”
Psalms 121:3-4 NLT

The God of Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers.
Living in a far country, away from my parents, I have always been worried about their well-being, safety, and protection. I would become very anxious when my mom did not pick up the phone at the time I called her. There is a day-and-night time difference between her and me, and I expected my mother to pick up my call at the very first ring. If she missed my call, I would become anxious and panic about her safety and well-being.
I would even yell at her and express my fear, selfishly insisting that she answer my call no matter what. My thoughts would go overboard, imagining the worst possible things if she did not answer. This fear and worry began to grow and spread into every area of my life, disrupting my daily living.
Then, in the middle of one such moment, I tried calling my mom several times, and she did not pick up. My fear began to drown me, and my mind was filled with the worst possibilities. Right in that moment, the voice of the Holy Spirit came so clearly, comforting me with this Scripture—that the Lord who watches over us does not slumber or sleep.
He gently reminded me that it was Him who was guarding my mom when I was asleep, and in the times when I became too busy to think about her or failed to call her, He was watching over her day and night. God was watching when I couldn’t. God was watching when I forgot. God was watching even while I slept.
It was such a powerful revelation to me that day. I thanked God, because He never sleeps nor slumbers, and He watches over my mom.
From that moment, I began to speak this Scripture over every situation and circumstance in my life. The Bible says that what is given into the Father’s hand, no one can snatch from Him. What a great encouragement it is to know that the eyes of the Creator are upon the lowly and the dust, and that He watches over us day and night. Even when we do not realize it, the God of Israel—our God—will not let our foot be moved.
The next time you are anxious or worried about something, remember this: our God does not sleep, and He is watching over you and your situation, even when you have forgotten to think about it or work on it.
The Almighty does not just watch—He protects, He provides, and He prospers you as you remain under His covering and trust in Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You that You never sleep nor slumber. Thank You for watching over me and my loved ones day and night. When fear and anxiety rise within me, remind me that You are always present, always in control, and always guarding. Help me to trust You more and rest in Your care. Teach me to surrender every worry into Your hands and remain under Your covering. Keep my heart in perfect peace as I fix my eyes on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
