“Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings; the city shall be rebuilt on its mound, and the palace shall stand where it used to be.”

Jeremiah 30:18 ESV

Lately, on social media, you may have come across channels where people search for very old items that are lost, broken, and look beyond repair. They carefully restore them to what they once were—or even better—and then present them as valuable antique pieces.

One such restoration showed a rustic old lantern. It looked like it was at least a hundred years old. Its parts were falling apart, the structure was weak, and the glass was shattered into pieces. To an ordinary eye, it looked like nothing more than garbage. But to someone with vision and skill, it was a hidden treasure—something beautiful waiting to be revealed.

The restorer gently picked up the lantern, fixed the broken knob back into place, cleaned it with a special solution, carefully joined the shattered glass, replaced what was needed, refilled it with oil, and gave it a final polished finish.

When the lantern was lit, it shone with unexpected beauty. Even the cracks in the glass formed a unique design. What once looked like damage now reflected light in a way that made it even more distinct.

And then something remarkable happened—after it was fully cleaned and restored, the original maker’s name, which had been hidden for years, became visible again.

As you reflect on this, you are reminded of God—the Restorer.

Just as that skilled restorer saw value where others saw waste, God sees you. Even when your life feels broken, forgotten, or beyond repair, He sees His workmanship in you. The Maker never loses sight of what belongs to Him.

The Bible reveals that Jesus went about doing good, and there is not enough room to record everything He has done. Even today, countless lives stand as living testimony to His restoring power.

What areas of your life feel beyond repair today?

The Word of God reminds you that you are not forgotten. The eyes of the Lord search to and fro across the earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those who seek Him.

The blood of Jesus cleanses you from all sin and gives you new life and freedom. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up your wounds. The Lord anoints you with oil so that your lamp will not run dry. Your light will not grow dim, and His glory will be revealed through you.

Those very places in your life that feel like cracks—your pain, your loss, your waiting—God can use them to reflect His light in a way that is uniquely yours.

And just like the maker’s name was revealed on the restored lantern, your true identity in Christ becomes visible when He restores you. You are His workmanship, His treasured possession, marked by His name.

You are made a new creation in Christ. Christ in you—the hope of glory—will be revealed through you.

God will restore your joy, your peace, your fortunes, and your years. He will give you a double portion for your loss.

Your brokenness will reveal the beauty of God, and your light will be set on a hill for others to see and come to Christ.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the God who restores. When you see brokenness in me, You do not turn away—you draw near. Help me to trust Your hands, even when the process feels slow or painful. Restore what has been lost, heal every wounded place, and renew my heart. Let my life reflect Your light, even through the cracks, so that Your name may be revealed through me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
