“For there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel; now it shall be said of Jacob and Israel, ‘What has God wrought!’”

Numbers 23:23 (ESV)

There lived a woman named Elizabeth in a village—a God-fearing woman, raised in a God-fearing household. She was very prayerful and loved the Lord deeply.

There was a wicked man, the son of the village chief. With that authority, he misused and mistreated many women in the village. Some women willingly gave in to his desires, while others were forced.

This son of the chief became interested in Elizabeth. He watched her carry her Bible to church every Sunday and attend prayer meetings. Unlike others, she was fearless. When he expressed his interest, she boldly refused. She made it clear that she would only marry a God-fearing man.

This made him furious. He tried many ways to convince her, but she would not give in. He then attempted to distract her from her relationship with Christ, but her faith was deeply rooted, and she remained unshaken in her love for the Lord.

Filled with anger, and at the suggestion of his wicked friends, he plotted to practice sorcery against her. He collected strands of her hair and items that belonged to her to perform black magic.

On an appointed night, the priest gathered at midnight to perform the ritual. As the flames rose in the dark room, the priest began chanting the names of demons to lure Elizabeth.

But in the midst of the ritual, a bright light filled the room, and a loud, stern voice spoke:

“Who are you trying to touch? Is it My daughter Elizabeth?”

Hearing that voice, the priest was struck with great fear. He had expected a demonic response, but instead, he encountered the voice of the living God. Terrified, he fled for his life, leaving the ritual unfinished.

The next day, the son of the chief came to ask about the outcome. The priest, shaken and angry, rebuked him for putting his life in danger before the God Elizabeth served. The son of the chief could not understand what had happened.

In the days that followed, the priest was deeply convicted by what he had experienced. He returned to Elizabeth’s home—a transformed man, with a new appearance and a humbled spirit. The villagers were amazed at the change in him.

He was welcomed kindly by Elizabeth’s father. When he met Elizabeth, he stood before her and declared that the God she worships is the true and living God who had defended her. He shared everything that had happened and pleaded to know more about Jesus Christ.

That priest gave his life to Jesus and became a street preacher. Later, I heard him sharing his testimony, preaching on the streets with a megaphone.

As I walked back home, I kept thinking, What a mighty God we serve. The powers, principalities, and every force of darkness are under His authority. Every weapon formed against Elizabeth did not prosper, and none of the sorcery came to pass.

This clearly reflects what we see in Scripture. When Balak hired Balaam to curse the Israelites as they grew in number and prospered, he could not curse whom God had blessed. Instead of cursing, Balaam spoke blessings, declaring that no divination or enchantment can stand against God’s people.

This is a powerful assurance for us even today—that no enchantment, no divination, no black magic, no evil eye, no wicked plan, and no scheme of the enemy will prevail.

The God of Israel is your Defender, your Shield, and your Protector. He will cover you and keep you safe.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being my Defender and my Shield. Thank You that no power of darkness can stand against me when I belong to You. Strengthen my faith to trust You fully, even in unseen battles. Cover me with Your protection and remind me daily that I am safe in Your hands.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
