“It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever.” — Psalm 136:23 ESV

When life is running smoothly, we are loved and remembered by everyone. People leave us messages, call, text, give gifts, and follow up—they love to acknowledge and associate with us. But when life is otherwise, sadly, many will not even bother to remember us. In the low points of life, we might be limited or unable to offer anyone anything.
The world operates this way: when there is nothing to offer, we are often forgotten. In some cases, even family members may not be willing to acknowledge someone in a low state. The good news is that God remembers the lowly. It does not matter who did not remember you; be cheerful that the God of heaven is close to the broken and contrite heart.
God reaches the lowly and builds them. He remembers them, uplifts them, and restores them. God’s lens does not see and remember the way human lenses work—it is far more noble and just. The heart of the broken and lowly attracts the presence of God.
Scripture records many living testimonies that He remembered, chose, and exalted those in lowly positions. There is never an incident recorded in the Bible where God ignored the lowly or left them unattended. He comes swiftly to help, to defend, to build, and to exalt.
Consider the examples: When Hannah was helpless, broken, and hopeless, God saw her tears and sent a word of promise. When the young boy Joseph was unjustly sold and taken to a foreign land, God saw his heart and voiceless, lowly state and showed favor, ultimately exalting him. The widow in Zarephath, left helpless, in debt, and hungry, received God’s compassion and provision. This truth might not convince someone who is currently going through immense trials and cannot even lift their head to face people or situations. It is natural to feel discouraged, but the Bible reminds us that even in our lowly state, we are seen and honored by God.
“Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them.” — James 1:9 NLT
It is far better to be lowly and remembered by God than to be rich and forgotten. If God remembers you, He will surely raise you from the pit and lift you up:
“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.” — Psalm 113:7-8.
Take great encouragement and know that God remembers the lowly. He will remember you in your lowest state, even if others ignore you. You will be lifted from the pit like Joseph, given a promise like Hannah, and provided for like the widow in Zarephath. If you are lowly, rejoice and welcome the privilege of being part of God’s great kingdom, where the humble, broken, and lowly are honored and exalted.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for seeing me when others do not. Thank You for remembering the lowly, lifting the broken, and providing hope in hopeless situations. Strengthen my faith, help me trust Your timing, and guide me to rejoice in Your presence. May Your steadfast love encourage me daily, and may I always find hope in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
