“The Lord replies, ‘I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.’”Psalms 12:5 NLT

We may have come across people who do not mess with the strong, the well-established households, or those who are socially influential. They tend to play low ball with them. They try to remain in their good books and stay on good terms to please them.

But the same people may launch a full-blown attack on homes that appear weaker—homes without strong foundational values, the helpless, the voiceless, and those who are socially disadvantaged.

They may look easy to control, easy to oppress, and easy to attack. But those who fall into the category of helplessness come directly under the radar of Almighty God Himself.

Irrespective of who they are, the Lord sees the violence done to the helpless and hears the groans of the poor. The Bible says that God Himself will rise up to rescue them.

The Bible records many such incidents.

When a helpless maidservant was abandoned and cried in the wilderness, God saw her cry.

He saw the oppression of the Israelites in slavery.

He saw rejected Joseph in the pit and rescued him.

He saw helpless Daniel in the lions’ den.

And He surely sees you in your suffering and in the violence done against you. He will redeem your life, because you are precious in God’s sight.

“From oppression and violence he redeems their life, and precious is their blood in his sight.”Psalm 72:14 ESV

Even today, millions of people suffer at the hands of narcissistic and oppressive individuals. Even our own homes may be impacted by such people.

In your despair, call upon the name of Jesus. In the place of destitution, seek the Lord in prayer. He has never despised the cry of the poor and the needy.

It may seem long, and the waiting may feel heavy, but place your hope in the Lord and in His redeeming power. He will oppose the oppressors. His hand will defend you, and His thunderous voice will advocate for you.

Do not believe the lie that your pain is unseen or that your cries are unheard. The God of justice has seen every injustice. He has heard every groan.

The Lord who rises for the helpless will also rise for you.

Be of good cheer—God has seen the injustice, and He has heard your groans.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

You are the God who sees the helpless and hears the cries of the broken. When we feel abandoned, rejected, or thrown into the pit of despair, remind us that Your eyes are upon us. Let Your justice rise for the helpless and let Your mercy cover those who call upon Your name.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.
